Do You Read Self Help Books?

October 31st, 2007 | by Chris |

In my previous post I wrote about a very good book from Shad Helmsetter regarding self talk. It crossed my mind that when someone works online for an MLM company it tends to forget recommending self help books to people in his network. Whereas when we promote offline there are a lot of books changing hands during the meetings or discussions and recommendations for self help books, seldom we do such a thing online.

Because online promotion tends to be more technical we give more emphasis to internet marketing techniques instead of personal development. That is understandable as the first priority for new distributors is to learn how to advertise for new prospects. But at some point communications with other members in the network or new prospects and customers will become necessary for those who want to move their business to the next level. And when I am talking about communications I mean talking on the phone or meet in person if possible. As you understand at this point interpersonal skills play a great role, and while some people have a natural gift on this, most of us don’t.

In order to acquire that skills, besides practice, some heavy reading of personal development books or hearing of motivational CDs is required. Even from a technical point some books would be useful even if you don’t intend to proceed to such communications. For example a book on setting goals would be very useful even if you are determined to hide behind your screen and never pick up the phone.
