What About The Sales?

November 19th, 2007 | by Chris |

Are you one of those marketers that after they joined their MLM company and after you follow a few seminars or conference calls you unleashed yourself to the streets or the world wide web avenues trying to recruit every living soul under the sun as a distributor?

But what about the customers?

One of the things most of us do is to duplicate and perpetuate a bad habit of the Network Marketing industry that of diminishing the value of customers and believing that only by piling a big number of distributors in our downline we can become successful. So we end up hyping and lying in our effort to recruit more people, no mater what, turning ourselves practically into headhunters. This simple thing is solely responsible for the bad name that MLM has in the outside world.

Let’s face it, Network Marketing is a unique business model to market, sell and distribute products and like any other business in order to survive it needs a customer base. The same goes for us as distributors since we are nothing more than a small business center, a franchise in the grand structure of the company. I don’t want to talk about morality and ethics here, since I am a firm believer in the market’s ability to reward those who bring value to it and punish those who don’t, which is reflected on the income they make. So I want to argue strictly on a practical and business like manner on the advantages that a customer base can bring to your business.

1. It’s easier to sell the product than the opportunity.

100% of the people are buying products while only a small percentage may be interested in starting their own business. Those who say otherwise probably never tried to sell one. If you still think it’s difficult have you ever been in a Wal-Mart store seeing people putting junk in their carts that would probably never use and rushing to the cashier to pay with money they don’t have, called credit cards? Clearly there is an insatiable crowd for products, all you have to do is find a way to reach them.

Actually, Network Marketing’s original intention was to become an enhanced model of something similar to door to door sales. But don’t worry in today world with the advancement of the Internet is no longer necessary to do so as you can leverage the internet to your benefit, turning yourself to an internet marketer. An individual that uses the internet in order to market and sale his products. Even with a high ticket business to business product still the net can offer you advantages in your quest to make sales.

2. It brings more stability to your income.

With all those opportunity seekers hopping from the one opportunity to the other chasing the next big thing, coupled with all those that tried it but didn’t like it or couldn’t work it and so quit, and it’s no surprise why trying to build an organization these days is like trying to fill a bucket full of holes. On the other hand it’s easier to acquire a loyal customer despite the plethora of brands and products on the market chasing his wallet than to retain a distributor. And it’s even easier to build a stream of traffic on the web that you can convert to sales bringing you a nice income without having to worry too much for your downline’s performance.

3. You have less competition.

Since most people are out there concentrating their efforts on acquiring more distributors in their downline they’re only a few that are trying to push the product, so practically the competition is non existent in that area.

4. It gives you credibility.

Imagine someone coming to you trying to get you into an opportunity that can help you make money and become financially free and all you have to do is to let him teach how to do so. Yet the same guy doesn’t still make a dime from it. Would you let him teach you how to become successful like him?

5. It helps you to recruit more people.

Imagine like the above example two people trying to recruit you and one of them makes a nice income from the opportunity while the other still struggles with nothing to show off. Whom do you choose?

If you solely concentrate on getting distributors you could run into a chicken or egg like paradox. If you don’t have any downline you make no money and if you make no money no one will join under you. The only solution to get out of it is by selling products.

6. You can better help those you sponsor.

Since you are already making money from customers you can also teach them how to do so themselves, helping them getting quicker into profits which leads to..

7. Your downline gets motivated.

When you bring your first dollar home from your own business this is the turning point where it gets into a self-sustained motion and growth. The feeling of accomplishment you get from your small victory it motivates you to work harder and the harder you work the more successful you become and the more motivated to keep on moving forward. No longer a push from the upline is necessary to keep them working, self-motivation is on.

8. Less distributors would quit.

As you can understand, if you have self-motivated people in your organization that are making a profit, the number of those who quit will get smaller. You no longer have to try to fill that bucket full of holes that we mentioned, and finally..

9. You make more money.

Would you rather have 1000 distributors in your organization struggling to make it and bringing you $10 each every month while you do your best and working hard every day baby-sitting everyone so they don’t quit and you lose everything? Or 100 self motivated hard working ones that bring $1000 each? Like bigger armies are not the ones that win the wars but those who are better trained, equipped, and motivated so is with the selling teams. A big number doesn’t mean “big money”.
