Don’t Fall In Love With Your MLM Company
November 30th, 2007 | by Chris |One of the things I always warn people no to do is falling in love with their MLM company. Yes your company may have the greatest product, paying the highest commission, its compensation plan is awesome, the training program rocks but…
But you are not here to build the company’s business, you want to build your business. You may be considered a sort of franchisee when you join a company and that you are working their system which indicates a dependence, but you are also an independent distributor. It’s prudent to utilize their system and learn from their training program but to stay only there and tie yourself exclusively to the company is last century’s Network Marketing, especially now with the utilization of the Internet to your marketing efforts.
The way I see Network Marketing today is nothing more than a multi-tier affiliate program. A system that you should utilize in order to build your business but you don’t want to give full control of it to the company. For example let’s suppose that Johanna has just joined an MLM company. Traditional thinking would expect Johanna to start acquiring customers and new distributors to start training and of course would handle much of it through and for the company, becoming just a contact point for it.
Now, what if Johanna went the other way, getting into relationship marketing, building a list of potential customers for her MLM product and then get them in contact with the company to purchase. It may seem the same thing but actually is not. The difference here is that she has the control now. Her list is an asset that can monetize through the MLM company but if she wants and she shouldn’t limit herself there, she can find additional ways to capitalize on her asset besides the company’s products.
The same goes with the team of distributors. They may all have signed up with the corporation, but if they have followed her example they are also in control and Johanna may leverage them through additional ways to monetize their customers, making even more money through that process.
Working the old way may still be lucrative but if you want to build more wealth and have more security at the same time you should start having more control on your business. As Robert Kiyosaki says when the rich invest they want to have as much control as they can on the investment. Likewise you are putting your time your effort and your money on that business so it makes sense to have as much control as possible if true wealth is your goal.
