Using Forums To Advertise Your MLM Business

Although there is a lot of buzz about web 2.0 and social networking sites, forums are still a very good, if not excellent, medium to use to drive targeted traffic to your website. If you never used one before, according to Wikipedia “an Internet Forum is a web application for holding discussions and posting user generated content”. In other words you visit a website where you can participate in discussions among users by posting content or read what others have posted.

The magic word when it comes to forums is the forum signature. Each participant can write a few sentences with one or more links that would be included automatically at the end of his posts every time he is posting something. That gives two benefits.

First, due to the back links pointing to your site you improve your ranking at the search engine results pages.

Second, if your posts bring value and are interesting some of the participants may follow your link to your website.

Although there is a lot of talk of Google discounting the value of links from forums lately, they still do have some effect, but the most important reason for posting is the direct traffic from forum participants. So you need primarily to focus on the readers and post valuable and well written content. The better you get at doing that the more traffic you’ll get.

One thing you should always bear in mind is never to spam the forums. After all there is no reason for that.No one follows the links of spammers and your posts also get deleted immediately so it’s a waste of time to even try it. What’s more, each forum has its own rules of what is allowed or not. So before you start posting the first thing is to visit the thread with the rules. Some forums allow signatures while others may not or put other restrictions.

So after you do that, if the forum allows it, you can create your signature and then start posting. Personally, I would suggest before you create your signature to first read some threads, so you can get to the spirit of the forum and then for the first days make a few posts without a signature. By doing this is easier to get other members trust and be accepted in their community more quickly. After that period you can create and use your signature without stirring any unwelcome feelings from the group.

What forums should you post at?

Well, naturally you would need to post to two kind of forums. MLM or Network Marketing ones where you would prospect for new distributors and forums where your target market hangs where you would be targeting new customers. To find them you can go at a search engine and start typing your keywords related with your industry and of course the word forum.

Of course you would need to have two websites. One for your customers and a second for your potential distributors.
