MLM Companies And The New Internet Reality

January 14th, 2008 | by Chris |

I talked in the past about the training programs that companies offer to their distributors and that you should be taking that into account when you evaluate a company. Many companies have great programs that can help you in your personal development, overcoming fears, closing sales, but unfortunately they don’t expand any further.

They don’t teach how you should target a market and do prospecting for customers and distributors. The majority is left in the “start form your warm market and then learn how to expand that market” strategy. Which translates, when you run out of friends and relatives start making new friends so you can have a new warm market.

Only a handful of companies are an exception to this and that’s out of necessity as they distribute high end items to businesses, so the warm market approach is hard to sell. Of course what worked decades ago doesn’t mean it will work nowadays. Nobody wants another sales pitch, especially from someone he already knows.

This century with the coming of the Internet things got worse on the training field. Many companies rushed to move online and do business through the net, but they forgot to educate their distributors how to use it in order to build their business. They are offering very generic knowledge and basically what they are saying is “here’s your affiliate url and now go and find out how to do business”.

You see the Internet is advancing very fast. What was new last year is obsolete today. Things change faster than the Network Marketing companies can adjust. If you take into consideration that they’re still left into the warm market concept, imagine what you can expect when it comes to the world wide web.

The Net can offer you great leverage when it comes to business. But that of course unless you know how. Unfortunately, MLM companies cannot teach you that, at least today or in the near future. So that responsibility falls to you. It’s something that you have to take into account when you are starting. You have to invest in your education with only a minimal help from the parent company.

Of course it doesn’t mean that you should be left all alone. Here comes into play your sponsor and the team behind him. They have already gone that path and by studying or through trial and error have the answers and the knowledge that can put you a few steps ahead.

This is why it is even more important today when you join a company to select carefully with whom you join. Without a strong and experienced team behind you, to help you and teach you, you would have to go through all this all by yourself. But don’t get despaired if you are not in that category. You are not doomed to fail. When I was starting I had to go through this alone and learn and apply and then learn gain. And I can tell you it wasn’t tremendous. Actually it was fun. So you just have to try a little harder.

And of course read MLM Spot. :)
