Social Bookmarking Solutions
April 9th, 2008 | by Chris |Now that we talked the previous time about the benefits of using social bookmarking sites and some of the drawbacks, let’s see today which one to use and how.
At the top of the list is nothing else but Digg. It has a lot of users and they can vote about the stories submitted sending the best ones at the front page which means huge traffic. But unless you have a killer submission outside of the marketing niche with catchy title and description, or a lot of friends, chances are you can only dream about such a thing.
On the other hand it doesn’t use the nofollow attribute and if your title contains a long tail keyword with small competition your submission would rank very well in Google, which can send you indirect traffic as we’ve told last time plus all the seo benefits.
You can bookmark all your pages if you want, but since it has more strong social elements than other such sites I prefer to submit good quality content and not everything I write.
After digg is the chaos or sort of. Many to choose from and unless you already have some favorites that you want to use, is counter-productive to do it separately to each one yourself. There are free solutions like onlywire that can bookmark automatically for you to more than 15 such sites with a press of a buton. And social poster to 77 of them.
Unfortunately with social poster, although it automates a lot of the procedure, you have to go through the sites one by one through the screen which requires some time.

Of course there are also paid solutions like social bookmark submitter if you want to get deep into it and make the most use of such sites.
I personally use onlywire for it’s convenience since I use social bookmarking lightly, mostly for seo and prefer not to overdo it in that area.
Of course you don’t only bookmark your own site, you do the same for your articles you submit at directories and other webpages that link back to you. You may also want to add other sites you find useful as well, just to dilute your self-serving links.
Other things you can do is to socialize with other members and add friends, if you have the time for that, and have them “help you” once in a while, but you would also need to do the same for them. So unless you have the time for such reciprocities it may not be a viable solution for you to socialize there. Just bookmark and run in that case.
Another special site in this category is stumbleupon for which we are going to talk on Friday so stay “tuned”.
