Your Prospects Demographics

April 21st, 2008 | by Chris |

When you try to find customers for your products or recruit new distributors in you multilevel marketing network, you need to find out who the best candidates are, what do they exactly want, and where to reach them. You have to get inside the head of your prospects in order to better approach them, and for doing that effectively you need to know who they are and how they think.

You need to know their demographics and psychographics. The more info you have on this the better the results you would be able to get from your prospecting. By knowing them you would be able to focus on segments of the market that consist your target market, the people with the greatest chance of buying from you or join you in the opportunity.

To begin with, let’s start with the demographics. They are nothing more than selected population characteristics. Commonly used demographics include race, age, income, disabilities, mobility, educational attainment, home ownership, employment status, and even location.

Of course, depending on your case, product, or opportunity, you may need additional characteristics that would be useful to you. That’s easier said than done of course and in many cases you may have to rely on assumptions. An easy thing to do is to survey your already customers or the members in your network about their demographics. That would be of use to you. Another way is to use www.quantcast.com and see the demographics of visitors to websites related to network marketing or your product.

The hardest way is to make assumptions and put them to test by surveying your leads and prospects you get.

By knowing their demographics you would be able to make better marketing decisions. For example, if you knew that 40% of your distributors are of certain age group, education and income level, and family status, it would make sense to target your advertising to that part of your population, right?

Demographics together with psychographics that we’ll talk about on Wednesday is a very powerful combination that can move your market research to the next level, so stay “tuned”.
