It Pays To Be A Contrarian In MLM

Or actually in most things in life if not in every situation. A contrarian, as the words implies, is someone that goes against the current trends and most commonly used practices by doing exactly the opposite. It is proven to work well in the investment world from where the famous phrase comes, buy when the others are selling and sell when everybody else is buying.

But even in the investment world today very few seem to practice it, let alone in other areas of life or business like multilevel marketing. And that is why it’s still powerful and would always be unless something change in the human psychology in the future. You see, we humans may be strange and complex creatures but the two most basic feelings that seem to drive us in such situations is greed and fear.

When a new fad or way of doing business comes to surface and we start hearing the success others had with it, we either get greedy and want to get our hands into the action so we can get a piece of the pie, or we get fearful. Fearful of been left behind. Of seeing others succeed and make all the money while we end becoming the odd one out. The one that would be left behind and end up cleaning the windshields of their shiny cars or mow the lawn of their mega-mansions for a living while the others would be enjoying the luxuries of life.

Of course, social proof does play a role into this because it’s a human trait to do what the rest of the group is doing. To conform to the society’s or social group’s or even niche’s norms, current practices and what is “acceptable”.

But by doing so we fall in the trap of getting into saturated fields the worst possible time, when almost everyone is there and those who are not are on their way to. In such situations, usually other fields outside of the new craze are left unattended and become once again easy places to dominate and exploit. And while many struggle to make their way chasing the new trend, a few smart and more able to control their feelings individuals are quietly amassing their fortunes on the grounds we dump when we go on hunting a chimera.
