Contrarian MLM Prospecting
April 30th, 2008 | by Chris |I rambled at my last post about contrarianism in contrast to chasing the hot new trends that are erupting all the time and may hurt your progress if you make it a habit to pursue them without questioning their efficacy. Let’s see today a field where contrarianism can be applied. It is that of prospecting and the methods that are used for it.
The new trend the last years is that of using the Internet for getting new customers and new members into your organization. A lot of people are doing it and many more are trying their luck into the online world aspired to build a huge network and an ongoing residual income that would secure financially them and their families.
And correctly they do so as the web is not just a craze but is a tool and a very powerful one indeed. That tool would become more “mainstream” as we move into the future and many of the things we used to do offline in the real world will be accomplished online. Of course it won’t become the magic machine that would do everything and we would be hooked to it all day. But for sure it is going to affect the way we communicate, get information or entertainment and as a consequence our consuming behavior. And as you understand all the money that are to be made is in the last one.
Getting online your multilevel marketing business is something that I recommend although not entirely or 100%. The wave of the future is the Internet and you should embrace it, but in the rush to move online with all the promises (and future rewards that such an action possesses) a lot of opportunity is opening up in the traditional offline world.

And when I refer to offline prospecting I don’t mean of course the warm market and the 3 foot rule. No, no way. That method is pure waste of time but to a small minority of distributors possessing the right characteristics to make it work for them. For the rest which is the vast majority can never work. No, I am talking about real advertising.
I still talk about getting your message to those willing to listen to you, which are the ones that convert better. I am talking about using newspapers to advertise or niche magazines. While more and more people concentrate on web promotion and prospecting, the number of those that bother to use offline media for that purpose is decreasing. That means less people are competing for the eyes of the readers which can be a good thing for the ROI you get by advertising there.
It would be an intelligent move at the same time you build your online presence and you are setting your prospecting systems on the net, to incorporate offline methods in your overall strategy as well. An underused area is waiting for you to exploit it there away from the crowded hot new trends.
