MLM And Entrepreneurship

I mentioned in my last post about the great differences between network marketing and a franchise and how wrong is to try to describe our industry as a form similar to franchise. Actually we do have more in common with entrepreneurship, and the reason is that we don’t replicate a system.

That’s right, we don’t follow a system. No matter how much we boast about simplicity and “all you have to do is to follow the system”, the system itself is not enough. Multilevel marketing is about lead generation. You have to find new customers and distributors. That’s the basic concept and all the work you need to do in the beginning before you build a decent network and start concentrating on training and leading your team.

The problem with lead generation is that there are countless ways to do it. The only limit is your imagination and your willingness to experiment with new ideas. New ways come up all the time and old ones die or lose their effectiveness. Some may be suitable for one distributor while others to another, depending on his background, skills, personality and all his capabilities and weaknesses. Total chaos and too much personalized to the individual.

In the whole process one has to go from learning prospecting methods to adapting them to his personality, work upon them, and create his own variations as well as developing his own. It is an ongoing process to perfection which requires a lot of creativity and a broad knowledge on human nature.

This is what every entrepreneur does. He is learning and creating his own systems. And this is what every excellent network marketer does.

Of course a distributor is not completely alone on this way. Like every entrepreneur has its mentor, likewise he is having his sponsor and his team behind to guide him on his first steps. But after some point he would have to bring his own personality on the way he is working and that is why is very essential the continuous education and his personal development.
