One Undeniable Truth About your MLM Prospects

January 16th, 2009 | by Chris |

Many people in multilevel marketing give their best self and do whatever they can to sponsor new people into their downline and give them the best training that they can. They hope and believe that their MLM prospects that joined their organization would become the great leaders and networkers of tomorrow that would help them create passive income and retire happily on a big stream of income. That is all good and someone must do its best to provide the right training to those he recruits and treat them as special that have the capability to excel in network marketing and make their dreams come true.

However, no matter how good all that sounds and how uplifting they may seem, when it comes to your prospects there is one undeniable truth that makes no good to hide from it and deny it as it would cause great frustration and disappointment in your career, unless you embrace it and accept that fact and learn to live with it.

The undeniable truth I am talking about here is the fact that from those you sponsor only a small percentage would live up to your expectations and become successful with their MLM business. Most of them would fail miserably and quit your downline very fast. Some of them may even join you and never hear a word from them because they would avoid communication with you and needles to say that they would also never attempt to do anything, maybe because they come from the mindset of they only have to join and sit and wait for the riches to come.

There a lot of factors that may lead those you sponsor to your MLM opportunity to fail and quit. Some may work hard and spend a lot of time in their home based business but would never take advice from you and consequently do everything wrong and never get any results for their efforts. Others, which is and the most usual case, would just sit and wait expecting spillover and for you doing all the hard work for them by putting none or little effort themselves.

The basic factor of course it is the something for nothing mentality that is widespread these days in the whole society. People everywhere are expecting magic results that would come instantly without themselves doing anything. Like obese people that are expecting to get a magic pill that would turn them into slim and desirable while they could keep devouring huge quantities of unhealthy food.

That thing happens exactly with your MLM recruits. Most of them have that mentality and expect that joining you is all they need to do and that somehow magically all their financial problems would end because they joined that marvelous opportunity that builds itself automatically. I have to admit here that a great contribution to this problem has misleading advertising by some distributors or multilevel marketing companies that are more close to the realm of scam that make such claims in order to attract people.

Another group of people are those who begin excited about the network marketing opportunity and are full of passion and willingness to work in the beginning and do the things that you tell to them, but down the road if the results don’t come as quickly as they were expecting they lose that enthusiasm and their determination and gradually stop working on their business. Unfortunately they don’t have the patience that is required in any business field in order for someone to reach success and achieve his goals.

But no matter what the causes of this phenomenon are, the even more important part is how you use that information in your MLM home business.

First, what you have to do is to accept the fact that this thing is natural and most of your recruits are a lost case. If you don’t accept and recognize it you are running the risk of getting disappointed whenever someone quits or does no work and take it personally that is something that has to do with you, your treatment to them, the training and advice that you were giving them, or with the marketing system that you use. Although at some extent that factors may play a small role and by improving them you may save some from quitting from your opportunity, at the majority of the cases make no difference and is something about them and not you that lead them there.

On the other hand if you accept it you don’t make a big deal of it when someone quits and you don’t get it personally. That way it cannot decrease the enthusiasm with which you work your MLM business opportunity and get you in a spiral of negative thoughts that can affect your performance. So you can continue with business as usual without nothing standing in your way.

Now on a more practical level there are even more things that you can do to decrease the number of people that join you downline and have that mentality and devoting more time to those that are more serious about the business they are getting into.

First, you can do better screening. Don’t just try to recruit anyone that come across you but set up a process to qualify them and find out their true motives and the possible dedication and patience they are willing to exhibit with the new endeavor they are getting into. Choose the best candidates and work with them to build your business. Of course that doesn’t mean that you would deny to anyone else that don’t fit that category to join your downline. Just let them in and let them try, you never know, some times you may get surprised.

Second, once your MLM prospects are inside your organization follow and evaluate their behavior and willingness to work and learn and apply the things that you teach them. By continuously monitoring them you can start seeing who are serious about their network marketing future and who are not. That way you can concentrate and work more closely with the serious and determined in your downline by dedicating even more time to them.

That of course doesn’t mean that you will abandon the others and never give them guidance, help, and advice. No, not all. You should continue to train and support them as much as they can take from you and leave them to work and build at their own pace. Not all of us are full time on this business model and many may see it just as a part time side-activity for giving them just an extra income, which is of course understandable and acceptable and highlights the beauty of our business model that can cater the different needs of various people.

You should never do the mistake to treat people differently. Each of them must have the same potential in your eyes unless they prove themselves to you otherwise. You don’t want to create self-fulfilling prophecies.

So don’t avoid to face that truth about your MLM prospects and deeply accept it. The truth no matter how harsh and disappointing may be it will always liberate you.
