MLM Internet Marketing Vs Old School Prospecting

April 3rd, 2009 | by Chris |

Today a great shift is happening in network marketing when it comes to prospecting and recruiting. The old days of making lists of friends and relatives and contacting them one by one or opening strangers wherever you are are replaced by MLM Internet marketing techniques. The web is an excellent place today to use for promotion and advertising and you can do it much more efficiently with getting very good results.

The advantages of online MLM are great to pass them by and if you rely only on old school techniques perhaps it is time to start experimenting with the Internet for prospecting. It is a more faster and reliable way for building your multilevel marketing business that more and more distributors would start using in the future.

MLM Internet Marketing - Ancient Prospecting Versus Internet Marketing Tools For Your MLM Business by Kenny Atcheson

Promoting your MLM using ancient techniques can be an uphill battle. It often may include:

1) Make a warm list of everyone you know. Contact all of them and share your excitement.
2) Make three-way calls and edify your upline to demonstrate that you have assistance when you join.
3) Invite, invite, invite to live presentations so your prospects can mingle with the rich affiliates.
4) Follow up.
5) Continue to build your social capital by attending networking events and parties then start at number one again.

These previous five methods worked prior to the internet explosion because that was the only way to grow your business opportunity. Let’s review the limitations to each of the previous five ancient techniques and compare them to the new modern methods.

1. Make a warm list

Ancient method-Why would you leave friends and family behind if you truly believe the product or business could benefit them. Previously you would invite them to a presentation or a three-way call. The problem was getting them to commit to anything. Once you burn through the warm list you slow down and it can get discouraging.

Modern method-Making a list is a method that may still be used if you are involved in an opportunity that you believe in. However, the way you treat that list has changed and you have faster ways to build a bigger list. Now you simply send them to a website that gives them the message or presentation. You are the messenger and the website functions as the message. The prospect can view an entire presentation at home, on their lunch break, or any other time they can spare forty five minutes. A quick email to hundreds of people may be even faster and less threatening.

2. Three-way calls

Ancient method-Call a prospect and ask if they mind if you get a team member on the phone that can answer their questions. If they reply “not now” you have to take time to arrange the call again which is doubling your work. If they agree then you have to hope the upline member is available. If they are available it’s great and if they are not you just demonstrated to your prospect that a simple task such as getting a team member on the phone to assist you is not an easy task at all.

Modern method-Email hundreds of your prospects with one click of a button with a link to your website. Share your excitement in your email and invite them to the website. The website will often include an information form for the prospect to fill out to receive more information. After filling out the form they will receive information without you having to send it manually. Then follow up with the prospects that filled out the form because they have demonstrated that they are interested. This allows you to save time by avoiding wasting time with uninterested parties.

3. Invite to live presentations

Ancient method-Personal one on one calls, three way calls, and simple email invitations to a live meeting across town at a hotel or at your home are old methods. The time spent inviting using these methods and attending the presentations is a hassle for you and the prospect.

Modern method-Invite to a website to watch a high quality video presentation given by a professional in the company. If your prospect wants to have questions answered and prefers live presentations there are live streaming video and webinar sites that are free to attend. The prospect will feel more confident knowing that all they have to do is invite people to watch a live presentation from their own home on the computer and there is less pressure.

4. Follow up

Ancient method-An enormous amount of time is spent following up with prospects that have been on a three-way call or attended a presentation. Simply keeping track of the process is a difficult task. You often find yourself following up with a semi-interested person a month later because you ran out of time. Every minute you spend following up could have been spent introducing someone new to your business opportunity.

Modern method-Tools utilizing the internet can knock off ninety-five percent of your follow up time. Autoresponders on your website or capture page are utilized along with voice broadcasting systems. Some companies have internet presentation tools that inform you what percentage of the presentation a prospect has watched. This allows the prospect to move at their own pace and it allows you to focus on highly interested people.

5. Attend Networking Events

Ancient method-Find the time to attend two or three networking events a week to meet new people. This will take up seven or eight hours a week and cost you money for food and drinks.

Modern method-At any time of day login to a social network and meet new like-minded people or network with current social network friends and share ideas that can help everyone in the group grow their business.

Virtually every method for growing your Network Marketing business can now be done online. An old school marketer may say you are missing the personalization factor and you can not meet enough people online to succeed. This is simply not true. Online video sites such as Youtube, ustream, and many others are such high quality that prospects can have the feel of getting to know you before you even speak with them. The personal touch may be slightly less than face to face but the amount of people you can reach online negates the difference. Plus if you combine online video, conference calls, and interactive technologies you can almost completely overcome the difference in the personal touch.

There are several other methods of online marketing for your MLM business such as forum posting and article writing that will earn you top producer status when you master them. First you have to get started.

If you are fearful of using any of the above technologies consider the following?

1) Would you rather try to convince people to drive across town?
2) What kind of results are you currently getting?
3) Have you heard of top producers personally enrolling 60 people in a month? They are always internet marketers.
4) All the online marketing techniques mentioned are simple once you have taken the training and you dedicate to using them.
