MLM Success is a State of Mind
November 10th, 2009 | by Chris |There are many people today who live miserable lives working a lot of hours in jobs they hate and while they are constantly complaining about their situation they never take action to bring change to their life. There are also a lot of marketers in network marketing that see their business opportunity as a game of luck and after they sign up with a company they sit and wait hoping that the business miraculously would build itself. But the truth is that MLM success is not something hard, it is only a state of mind.
It’s about changing your thinking from a person that let’s life slips through his hands passively to an individual that takes responsibility for himself and his action. Someone that knows that his actions determine the kind of life he lives and has the confidence and determination to work and learn what is needed in order to succeed in any field.
Your Life is Only As Successful As Your State of Mind by Will MacArdle
I was like everyone else, mostly.
The alarm goes off. It’s just after 6:00am, 6:07 to be precise, and I make my move to get out of bed. I then proceed to make my way for the bathroom in order to relieve myself, but first, I make sure I stub my toe on the corner of the wall. After a very “soothing” start to the morning, I make my way to the kitchen and do my usual thing. I stick my favorite Toaster Strudels into the toaster, and start brewing my favorite Hawaiian Hazelnut Coffee. I have to tell you, it’s quite a combo. But after I’m done prepping everything, I suddenly realize I’m running late. So I grab everything as quick as I can, grab my backpack, and run for the door. But, before I leave, I make sure I stub my toe on the door. You see, I’m wearing sandles, and therefore had no protection. Good morning life!
Does this sound all too familiar? Don’t lie to me, you know it does. It certainly was my world for a long while. And besides the Toaster Strudels and Coffee, I really hated it… a lot. At that moment in my life, my duty was to get up every single day, and head to my job so that I could feed Igor (aka my stomach), keep the water running, make sure the electricity kept flowing, fill my car with gas, and keep that cell phone on in case my boss needed to call me into work on my day off.
I worked on Fort Myers Beach here in Florida for a Watersports rental company 6 days a week, for 10 hours a day, renting jet ski’s, chairs, umbrellas, and cabanas. I arrived at work usually around 7:45am, and started my day by setting up about 50 cabanas. From there, I would drive the trailer around and setup about 20-30 chair and umbrella setups. Then, I would drive the trailer back around to the line, unhitch the trailer, and then hitch on the jet ski trailer. From there, I would grab 8 anchors, walk down to the water, and dig and plant all 8 anchors and set them in the water. Then, I would head back up to the line and crank 8 jet ski’s, one at a time, onto the trailer, and dump them into the water, anchoring them up, one at a time.
From there, the rest of my day was spent running around setting up more chairs and umbrellas, and sitting in the water helping people on and off their jet ski’s. Come closing time, I had to unanchor all the ski’s, undig all the anchors, and crank each ski up, one at a time, and put them back on the line. Then, I would clean, flush, and gas each jet ski, and lock them up for the night. From there, I would hitch back the big trailer, bring it around, and pick up all the chairs and umbrellas from the day, close down all the cabanas, and then head home. Whew…

That was my life, day in and day out, and I just always found myself becoming more and more miserable. I’ll never forget, one night after work, I had just got home from working about 11 hours in the summer Florida sun, and I walked in, set my backpack down by the door, and just went and threw myself on the couch; sand, sweat and all. I was lying there, eyes closed, tired as all hell, and burnt to a crisp. I opened my eyes, looked up at the ceiling, and this thought crept into my mind… “Man” I said to myself. “Do I really want to spend the rest of my life, working as a “sand slave” down on the beach, getting absolutely fried by the sun, working for someone else, when he wanted, doing whatever he asked me to do without question, regardless of whether or not I disagreed him, making someone else wealthy for $11 an hour until either I get skin cancer, drown myself in the ocean, or end up a very very VERY tan 80 year old man… or do I want to change that?”
The answer was very simple for me. But, I understand, the answer does not always come simple to everyone. Unfortunately, some people are so bogged down by limited thinking, their mindset, their environment, and they never can break away. They’re what I call Lifers, and they stay stuck in that rut for the rest of their lives. At this point in my life, I own 2 business, and am in the process of securing private funding for a third. I am a personal manager and life coach for professional golfers, a world famous (At least in my own mind) network marketer and prospecter, as well as Eddie Murphy’s private Chef. Ok, so I made that last one up, but the previous two or more than true, and if it wasn’t for my burning desire to change my situation, and make the change, I would still be a Tan Turtle down on the beach working as a slave for snowbirds. I refused to stay in that lifestyle, and now because of my tenacity, I make multiple 6 figures a year, and I can actually afford to eat something other Toaster Strudels. This past year, I managed to buy my first home, my first nice car, and took my first vacation in a long, LONG time.
I’m not here to sell an opportunity, or a business, or any other hidden agenda. Though I could easily do that, I’m here to say that maybe you’re reading this because you need an answer. Maybe things in your life are crashing around you, and you’re looking up out of that deep hole for a hand to grab onto. Maybe you’re a multi-millionaire who is just missing that extra something in your life. I’m here to say that anything you want in your life, you can have, as long as you have a burning desire for it. Too many people are bogged down by J.O.B’S, and they never break away from that way of life. Instead of chasing what they want, they say “Oh I can’t do that, I don’t know how.” So what! The how will come, just go do it. More people lose out to indecision than they do to bad decisions. Take charge of your life, and shape it into anything that you’ve always wanted. One of my favorite quotes of all time is the following: “If you want the things in your life to change, you have to change the things in your life.” It really is that simple. You can do it. Make the change, today. But hey, I have to go…..my Toaster Strudels are burning.
