Building Credibility in Internet MLM
February 28th, 2010 | by Chris |When you are an Internet network marketer there are some things you have to consider if you want to become successful and build the home business that you are dreaming off. The most important things is your Credibility. No one today joins under the first sponsor he finds in an MLM opportunity. People are more smarter today when it comes to Internet and as a natural consequence they want to get as much information as possible before they join a company and find a sponsor.
What that means is that you cannot longer hide behind the anonymity that the Internet offers but you have to put your true identity and your history and credentials in multilevel marketing. You have to show that you are a true person that you can help those you sponsor to succeed and build their MLM home business. So as you can understand your credibility is very important when you are trying to convince those people to join your business opportunity.
But how can you build your credibility on the net?
Well first of all you have to show to them that you are a stable and trustworthy person that you stick with the company you represent and not changing opportunities like your shirts. Second you also need to show them that you are not one of those that have 10 other opportunities under their sleeve that work simultaneously. By working more than one opportunities you are showing that you are not a serious marketer and you need to avoid that.
How to Avoid Losing Credibility As an Internet Network Marketer by Adrian Hines
It takes a lifetime to earn respect and to be viewed as someone that is credible in life. But it only takes a quick moment to destroy it for good. The same is true as internet network marketing.
Let me explain.
In my past I’ve been a part of 6 traditional MLM companies. Each one I had to write out my same top 100 list and talk to them first. By my 3rd company my credibility with my warm market was shot.
When I ventured online back in 2008 I had a clean slate. But if I did what I’m going to talk about in this article then my credibility would have been tarnished for good. How can I say that? Well the internet is a powerful tool. People are watching you whether you realize it or not. If you’ve built a fan base and do what is mentioned here then you will lose the respect of your peers and followers.
You can’t stop people from writing blogs, making videos, or writing articles about how you are indecisive, not a person worth following, or even worst. So to avoid losing credibility as an internet network marketer make sure you don’t or STOP doing the following two “sins”.
1. Jumping from company to company
Understand what I am not saying on this one. If you make a decision to leave a company because the product is not the same anymore, comp plan is horrible now, you’ve lost your passion, you made a valid business decision, etc, then I’m not talking about that.

What I am speaking on is when you leave one company for a newer one because the grass “is greener”. Then another pops up and you go to that one because you CAN make $20,000 in 2 months and so on. What you may not realize is going on is that you are confusing your followers (downline) and other leaders and losing credibility.
If that is you take a back seat for a moment. Review the PLETHORA of internet network marketing and MLM companies that are out there. Know what you your goals are, what you are passionate about, etc. Then choose one that is based around that which falls in line with everything you believe.
2. Trying to build multiple network marketing businesses at the same time
There’s something powerful yet simple about focus. Think about as a kid when you held a magnifying glass steady over a leaf so the sun could burn it. A fire would not have happened if you kept moving the magnifying glass out of focus from the sun.
It’s the same in this industry. It’s extremely hard to build multiple internet network marketing businesses at the same time if you haven’t even mastered one yet. Mark Yarnell gives a rule of thumb. If you are not making at least $100,000 a month in one business already then don’t try it. When you are at that point everything is pretty much running on autopilot.
However MOST that are trying to do it usually have about 2,3, 4 or even 5 businesses they are trying to grow and haven’t even made 10k a month yet. Kinda reminds me of the flea market approach. If ABC company is not for you then try DEF company. If that’s not a good fit then look at XYZ company. Whatever you want I have for you is the message that is being conveyed.
It’s just plain tacky. Don’t do it.
So now that you know the 2 “sins” to avoid making I trust that you will do what is right not only for yourself but for your team as well. Remember they will do what you do.
To see the internet network marketing company that I chose go here. There you will see why I stopped jumping companies and focus only on building one internet network marketing business.

Great post. Online networking seems to be the preferred method for many to focus their attention to help build an MLM business. Having substantial online credibility is imperative in ensuring that these efforts have the desired outcome.

Great article, Adrian. I think in addition to the rule of never chasing two rabbits, many new folks think they don’t have unique value to offer and that couldn’t be further from the truth! As long as they learn something new and be themselves in conveying it from a place of service, people will respect them as leaders. I see new people come in all the time and when they are genuine, even if they are newbies online, they crush it! Keep up the great content! Cheers, David

I think the simplest way to do that is to show and convince people that they’ll gain something from working with you.
